REDDING, Calif. - Authorities say a 57-year-old Redding man has been struck and killed by a freight train.
The Redding Police Department says Mark Fehse was hit about 1:40 p.m. Friday. He was crossing the train tracks in downtown Redding.
Fehse was wearing a headset when he was hit, and it's not clear whether he heard or saw the approaching train.
Police say the track's crossing arms were down and warning devices had been activated.
Railroad traffic was stopped and cars were rerouted for nearly two hours while emergency crews investigated the death.
