Arnold qualifies for NCAA Indoor Championships

Former Carson High pole vaulter Mike Arnold will compete at the upcoming NCAA Indoor Championship Friday and Saturday at the University of Arkansas.

Arnold, a sophomore at Idaho State, cleared a career-best 17-73⁄4 at the University of Washington meet on March 6 to finish second place.

Arnold is currently ranked 10th nationally.

Arnold won the pole vault at the Big Sky Indoor Championships by clearing 17-33⁄4. The mark beat his nearest competitor by nearly a foot.

It was Arnold's second consecutive championship. He won the Big Sky outdoor title in the pole vault last spring.

Genoa Lakes women

start 17th season

The Genoa Lakes Ladies Golf Club opens its 17th season on April 6.

All women golfers are invited to participate in the weekly tournaments and Northern Nevada Golf Association events.

Players who don't belong to to the Genoa Lakes Ladies Club will receive reduced greens fees on days of play. For more information, call Barb Wilson at 782-6859.

3 Tigersharks

in all-star meet

The Carson Tigersharks sent three swimmers - Abby Pittman, Kaly Branco and Brett Kolb - to the Pacific All-Star Swimming Meet in Morgan Hill, Calif. last weekend.

Pittman, competing in the 13-14-year-old division, swam the 200 individual medley, 200 free and the 100 butterfly. Branco, swimming in the 9-10 age group, competed in the 50 and 100 free events plus the 100 IM. Kolb, competing in the 9-10 boys division, swam the 100 free, 50 back and 50 butterfly.

Jay Session and Charlee Bradley were selected for the meet, but didn't attend.

Lehman wins regional pool title

Jerry Lehman, a Carson City resident, qualified for the American Poolplayers Association's 9-Ball Shootout by winning a regional competition on March 7 in Bakersfield, Calif.

Lehman will join players from throughout North America for the national event in Las Vegas at the Riviera Hotel & Casino April 29-May 1. Regional winners from each skill level tier compete with players in their own skill level.

Scratch Masters

Scratch Masters retained its lead over Twisted Stix in the Comstock Division of the Carson City chapter of the American Poolplayers Association.

Scratch Masters has 643 points, 12 ahead of Twisted Stix.

Kirsten Kehe of Twisted Stix leads the 4-5 tier with 30 points, eight ahead of Terrance Bradley of Dean's Machine. Frederick Osterhagen and Don Allred, both of Scratch masters, are tied for first in the 6-9 tier with 18 points apiece. Gloria Rodriguez leads the 1-3 tier with 25 points, three ahead of James Panos from the Scratch Masters team.

In the Mosconi Division, Role Models and Trouble Makers are tied for first with 34 points apiece.

Casey Richards of Support Rackless Habits leads the 4-5 tier with 34 points, a whopping 13 points ahead of William Kenson of the Trouble Makers.

David Giovacchini of Jerry's Kids leads the 6-7 tier with 29 points, one better than Alex Gutierrez of Role Models.

Jason Brendel of Twisted Attitudes leads the 2-3 tier with 20 points, while Brandy Delaney of Cues Yer Daddy is second with 18 points.

Pop Warner sets

signup dates

Carson Pop Warner, the oldest youth football and cheerleading program in Northern Nevada, has scheduled three signup dates for the upcoming season.

Boys and girls from 5 to 15 are invited to participate in the respective groups.

The first signup is April 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Department of Education located at 700 East Fifth St.

The second signup is May 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., also at the Department of Education.

The third signup session is June 2 from 6-8 p.m. at Q's BBQ located at 230 Fairview St.

Football registration is $125, which includes jersey and socks. Cheer registration is $60 which covers administrative fees. Fundraising is available to cover cost of uniforms.

Archery event set

for Sunday

The Hell or High Water 3-D Shoot, sponsored by the Clear Creek Bowmen, takes place Saturday at the Centennial Park Archery Range. located east of Eagle Valley Golf Course.

Drive east four miles on Highway 50 and go past Deer Run Road. Turn left at the Added Storage building and drive north until the road ends. Turn right at the archery range sign and look for the green building.

This is a fun shoot and no prizes will be awarded. The cost is $12 for Clear Creek members, $15 for non-members, $6 for young adults 15-17 and youth from 12 to 14.

Carson High

NothingButNylon, a basketball club, is open to all boys and girls who would like to work on their basketball skills.

If the club gets enough players in any age group then it will travel and play in tournaments in the Sacramento area.

Gym time is on Monday and Wednesday 6-8 p.m. at Carson High School.
