130 YEARS AGO

Reckless boys: Carson probably contains more reckless boys than any place on earth. Yesterday afternoon some heavy freight wagons were going along Carson street when a boy rushed out and stretched himself on the wheel of one of the wagons in the shape of a letter X, allowing his body to turn round with each revolution ... other boys followed. The teamster looked back and saw how the boys were fixed on the wagon and thought of a scheme. He stopped the wagon with most of the youngsters with their heads down over the mud puddle - and that's where the youngsters fell off ... head first.

120 YEARS AGO

The O.N.O. party was a very pleasant affair. Nearly 80 people were present and had a good time. The feature of the evening was the quadrille for gentlemen only. This phenomenon was due to the scarcity of young ladies.

Al Saliman: Director of Carson High School band has announced a schedule for mid-winter high school concerts in the civic auditorium... "The Student Prince Overture" by Romberg precedes the high school majorettes - Patty Maxsom, Sharon Gold, Barbara Roventini, Connie Buoanamici, Linda Haffey, Mary Cole and Christie Peters.

"Cowboy Jubilee" The Sixth Annual Cowboy Jubilee and Poetry featured rodeoer Pat Richardson who told tall tales. The Jubilee is a fund-raising event for the Carson-Tahoe Hospital Auxiliary for the hospital's pediatric unit.
