Carson man arrested in Tuesday standoff

A man who climbed into his garage rafters and refused to come down for police fell as officers were going in to get him Tuesday night, said Undersheriff Steve Albertsen.

Albertsen said officers were called out to the 2600 block of Meadowbrook Lane at 6 p.m. on a report of a domestic dispute between Timothy Neiderer and his parents.

Neiderer, 27, allegedly tore up the home, then when police arrived, he confronted them with a knife before barricading himself in the garage, said Albertsen. Eventually, Neiderer climbed into the garage rafters.

The undersheriff said when deputies tried to coax the man down, he began throwing items at them.

As police were planning to go in and extricate him, said Albertsen, Neiderer slipped and fell to the garage floor.

"When we went in to get him, he started fighting and we had to Tase him," said Albertsen.

The man was taken to the hospital with a minor head injury and for a mental evaluation, said Albertsen.

He was booked into the jail Wednesday morning on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, malicious destruction of property and obstruction of a peace officer. Bail was set at $20,000.

The incident blocked a portion of Meadowbrook for an hour.
