27 vie for 11 seats in Carson City

By the close of business Friday, 27 people had filed with the Clerk-Recorder's Office for 11 Carson City offices.

The race with the biggest field of candidates is for the Ward 1 supervisor seat now held by Robin Williamson, who has filed for state Assembly District 40.

Contenders include businesswoman Karen Abowd, former city planner Rob Joiner, podiatrist Sean Lehmann, former DOT engineer Paul Saucedo, former Reno Bighorns owner Gary Schulz and school board president Norm Scoggin.

The race for the supervisor Ward 3 seat being vacated by Pete Livermore - who filed for the state Assembly District 40 slot - will be between certified public accountant John McKenna, salesman Mark Sattler and lawyer Day Williams.

Both Livermore and Williamson are termed-out at the end of this year.

In what is usually the most hotly contended race in Carson City - the office of sheriff - Deputy Bob Guimont and Capt. Bob White hope to unseat incumbent Sheriff Kenny Furlong.

District Attorney Neil Rombardo is unopposed.

Filings for the school board, sparse until near the end of this week, had livened up considerably by the end of the filing period.

District 1 candidates are Julie Bushner, Tom Keeton, Robert Prater and Ron Swirczek.

Recently appointed trustee for District 3, Stacie Wilke-McCulloch, will run unopposed, as will Lynnette Conrad, also recently appointed, but to District 4.

Randy Carlson, who was appointed to the District 6 seat, will face Paul Brugger, Deonne Contine and Barbara Myers in the primary.

Treasurer Al Kramer and Clerk-Recorder Alan Glover will go straight to the general election in the fall, but incumbent Dave Dawley will face newcomer Ian Mindling.

All offices are non-partisan. The primary election is June 8.
