Seniors spring toward graduation

At most high schools during spring, the students will be found in quite the opposite season: drab.

While spring connotes a fresh new beginning for most, for high schoolers it most strongly signifies a daunting end consisting of finals and hours of studying.

With the hopes of shortening this seemingly never-ending countdown until the last day of school, the leadership class at Carson High School has a plan to help the students spring through spring. To help the students notice the plethora of flowers outside, the student council has a plethora of activities planned:

March 17: The community is invited to come to the high school at 6:30 p.m. to "buy" the homecoming queen and king, the captain of the basketball team, and many other seniors to do some work. All the proceeds from this event go to the student council fund.

March 27: Start your spring cleaning early with the Senior Class Rummage Sale, 7 a.m.-noon March 27. Donate items to the senior class so we can sell them. All proceeds from this event also will go to the student council fund for prom. Contact Megan Jackson at 720-7791 for more info.

March 29-April 2: Spring fling week. Students have fun and goofy dress up days and activities. There also will be a charity fundraiser conducted throughout the week.

March 31: So You Think You Can Dance? competition will be held in the big gym at 6 p.m. with a $3 prom donation to get in. The community is welcome.

April 25: Interested in helping raise money for the school while sipping tea and eating scones? Come to the spring tea party on April 25 where you can learn about the art of proper English tea! Contact Kate Carlevato at 315-5517 for tickets.

May 8: Senior prom at the Hyatt Regency Resort in Incline Village.

May 10-14: Tiny Toes sock drive. The high school will be accepting donations for infant-size socks which are in shortage in local hospitals.

May 20-21: Senior Project presentations. Volunteer panel judges are welcome. Contact the school for more information.

June 4: Last day of school

June 6: Class 2010 graduation at Carson High School. The leadership class also is suiting up for next year. The elections for the new student body positions have been held, and the officers for the 2010/2011 school year are as follows:

President: Brandon Buonacorsi

Vice President: Kelli Nguyen

Secretary: Melissa James

Treasurer: Elizabeth Swezey

School Board Representative: AJ Winder

Historian: Tabitha Howk
