RENO (AP) - Washoe County Sheriff Mike Haley is headed for a second term after no one filed to run against him.
Voter Registrar Dan Burk says that under Nevada law, nonpartisan candidates who have no opponents win their races and their names don't appear on the ballot.
The 57-year-old Haley says he was prepared to run a campaign but is relieved not to have to.
Haley has worked for the sheriff's office for 30 years. His office created the Northern Nevada Counter-Terrorism Center and the Cyber Center to fight Internet crimes.
County Treasurer Tammi Davis' name will appear on the November ballot. The Republican doesn't have a challenger in the partisan race but could face a write-in candidate.
