A series of controlled burns Wednesday between Sunridge Drive and Johnson Lane in Minden sent up a plume of smoke visible from Carson City.
According to East Fork Fire Capt. Terry Taylor, the burns are happening on 200-plus agriculture and marsh acreage belonging to the Incline Village General Improvement District.
"It's a series of controlled burns to reduce noxious weeds and cattails. About every five to six years they go through with pattern burning to remove vegetation and create fuel breaks," said Taylor.
He said more burns are expected in that area in the coming weeks.
