Facing rising wait times at licensing offices, the Department of Motor Vehicles is urging motorists to visit the DMV Web site, dmvnv.com, before visiting an office.

Director Edgar Roberts said wait times have been increasing because of the added time it takes to process new drivers licenses along with staff reductions forced by state budget cuts.

"You may be able to accomplish your goal online or by mail," he said. "If you do have to come in, you'll come in prepared if you go to the Web site first."

The latest service offered online is the Nevada Liability Insurance Validation system, which allows motorists and insurance agents to update policy information.

He said DMV can now verify more than 80 percent of the insurance policies written in Nevada electronically.
