Jessica Shull of Carson City, and Katherine Crowe of Douglas County each received top honors in their categories during the combined Miss Carson City/Miss Douglas County Pageant on Saturday at Capital Christian Center in Carson City.

"I'm speechless," said Shull, 18, who beat out three other contestants in her category to be named Miss Carson City 2010. Shull will represent Carson in the Miss Nevada Pageant in Mesquite in July.

Shull's platform is "Keeping the Arts in Schools." While Carson City is her home, she said, she is on a Lake Tahoe dance team as well as travels with a dance troupe in Los Angeles.

"This is not usually the thing I do," said Shull noting she hadn't been in a pageant since she was a little girl. "I'm more a dancer than a pageant girl, so I am definitely surprised (I won)."

With a platform of "Dancing With Disabilities" Crowe, 18, picked up the crown as Miss Douglas County 2010, outshining her five competitors.

Simultaneously on Saturday the Carson City Outstanding Teen and Douglas County Outstand-

ing Teen competitions were held.

Diana Sweeney, 16, of Carson City, was selected the best out of Carson's four contestants, while Bailey Gumm, 14, tapped her way into the hearts of the judges to claim the crown for Douglas County.

Gumm's platform was "Autism Awareness." Sweeney's platform was "Friends in Service Helping."

Of the 16 contestants, Alisa Merino, 18, of Douglas County was named Miss Congeniality, while Karessa Jared, 21, of Carson City and Tristin Silva, 15, of Douglas County, each received Spirit Awards.
