Douglas County Search & Rescue Operations Leader Shaun Thomas, a Foothills resident who owns Kingsbury Automotive, has served county residents for 30 years, according to nominator John Soderman, a member of Search and Rescue.
"Dozens of people literally owe their lives to Shaun Thomas," Soderman wrote. "He has been instrumental in searching for lost parties, rescuing the injured, recovering the deceased, flood rescue, swift water rescue, avalanche rescue, fire evacuations and other high-stakes, critical need support to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office."
Thomas has also been named citizen of the year by The Record-Courier and the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce.
"Shaun Thomas takes it personally when individuals, families or the community is in trouble. He does whatever it takes to effect a positive outcome," said Sonderman. "Douglas County is truly blessed to have the level of volunteerism it enjoys. Shaun Thomas represents the best when it comes to long-term commitment with positive results."
