Tamara Nash was nominated as an Unsung Hero by family friend Tiffany ODay for her heroic efforts on Mother's Day when her husband was shot in Washoe Valley trying to help a mortally wounded Carson teen.
"Wayne Nash has been given great praise for his heroic acts on that day. Everyone knows that he was shot and suffered serious injuries. Tamara Nash acted quickly to save her husband's life. Had she not acted as quickly as she had, Wayne very well could not be here today," said ODay.
On May 10, 2009, the Nashes, along with their teen daughter, were driving to Reno through Washoe Valley when the car in front of them swerved off the road.
Wayne Nash thought an accident had happened and stopped to help. As he walked toward the disabled vehicle, the car drove off the shoulder and its driver fired several rounds at Nash, striking him twice.
Tamara Nash witnessed the incident and rushed to her husband's side while their daughter flagged down passing motorists.
"Tamara Nash is in every way a true hero. She also took care of Wayne as he rehabilitated, " said ODay. "Wayne still cannot feel his toes on his right leg, however, he still has his leg thanks to his wife. Tamara Nash deserves some recognition for what she did. She has truly gone unnoticed."
