Carson boys, girls take second in four-way meet

Carson High's boys and girls track teams finished each placed second in a four-way meet with North Valleys, Douglas and McQueen on last Saturday.

McQueen won the boys meet with 119 points, Carson was second with 60, North Valleys was third with 43 and Douglas was fourth with 42. McQueen won the girls meet with 97.5, while Carson was next with 73. Douglas finished with 58 and North Valleys was last with 35.

Luke Carter won three events - the 110 high hurdles and the 300 hurdles, clocking times of 15.6 and 40.6, respectively and the long jump (20-5).

Richard Shroy won the 1,600 in 4 minutes 31 seconds and the 3,200 in 10:12. He also ran a leg on the Senators' winning 3,200 relay squad which clocked an impressive 8:24. Brandon Buonacorsi finished fourth in the 400 (53.7) and fourth in the 800 (2:12). Eric Garcia vaulted an impressive 13-6 to win the pole vault, while teammate A.J. Winder placed fourth.

Blake McCoy was second in the discus.

On the girls side, Katie McFarren won the 1,600 and 3,200. She ran a 5:38.79 in the four-lapper and a 12:26.35 in the eight-lapper. Maddi Saarem won the pole vault with a leap of 8 feet.

Carson's April Shonnard was second to McFarren in both events, clocking a 5:41.74 and 12:29.74, respectively. Julianne King also had two impressive second-place finishes in the 200 and 400 (1:02.40). Jeanette Van Sickle was second in the discus with a throw of 84-3. Alex Fallon, who barely missed making the state meet last year, was second in the triple jump at 33-9.5.

The Senators' girls' 3200 relay quartet of Amanda Gordon, Caroline Monteil, Amber Karnofel and McFarren teamed up for a second-place finish in 11:14.5.
