Pete R. Pierini, 85, a life-long resident of Carson City, died Sunday, March 21, 2010. He was born on his family's ranch June 12, 1924, in Carson City to Salvatore and Maria (Balanesi) Pierini.
He was an Army sergeant in World War II and took part in the D-Day invasion in Normandy. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Carson City where he married Ruth (Brown) Pierini in 1946. He became a Design Engineer with the Nevada Department of Transportation and is responsible for the creation of many roads and highways within the state. He was an avid fisherman and hunter.
He and Ruth have two sons. Leonard (Nancy) lives in San Deigo, Calif., and Ronald (Celeste) lives in Gardnerville.
Pete is preceded in death by his parents and brother Dominic.
He is survived by his two sons; sister Angelina Leone of Ft. Worth, Texas; granddaughters Candyce Allison (Ronald) of Washoe Valley, Alicia Pierini (Leonard) of San Diego, Nick Pierini (Leonard) of San Diego and Leah Walters-Pierini (Ronald); great-grandsons Aaron and Matthew (Candyce); great granddaughters Aubree and Megan (Candyce) and Ashlyn Marie (Nick) as well as numerous loving nephews, nieces and cousins.
A memorial service will be 1 p.m., Saturday at St. Teresa's Catholic Church, with a graveside service immediately following at Lone Mountain Cemetery.
