130 YEARS AGO

This evening an Appeal man let friends know he was leaving for San Francisco with the results of the most deplorable character. Everyone wants something including: Doc Benton requires a bull pup and two terriers; bird cage and Bible for Mrs. H; two boys caps, a bolt of waterproof cloth and some red window curtains for Mrs. L; some candy for child; painted wagon for boy; four dollar small shotgun for small brother; bring up sister from Colfax for Mr. Boggs; buy assortment of books for Sunday school; and stop by Stockton Asylum and apply for a life scholarship.

100 YEARS AGO

Because Reno firefighters didn't leave a watch to make sure a fire had no flareups, the Red Cross Hospital was left in almost ruins this morning. The building cost $10,000 and was insured for $2,000, and represented the entire life savings of the two women owners.

70 YEARS AGO

Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Snyder left today for a motor trip to Death Valley, Las Vegas and Boulder Dam. Their guests were Mrs. Edith Knippenberg and Mrs. Charles Priest.

50 YEARS AGO

Former members of the 20-30 club had a "past active" night with donations and fines payable to the present club, president Keith MacDonald announced today. Under the general chairmanship of Rick Menzies, the group welcomed Beverly Thomas, Stan Sundeen, John Bawden, Mel Cowpertwaite, Bob Shriver, Swede Russel, Ralph Barrett, Ed Block, Don Amodei, Wayne Schumacher and Alfred Perondi.

Past actives Archie Pozzi. Phil Roventini and Jack LaGrange were fined $5 in absentia (in absence).

20 YEARS AGO

Ida Gulino, veteran teacher at Empire Elementary School, is named "Teacher of the Year."

10 YEARS AGO

Four young men were honored at the Governor's Mansion with the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts - Brian Anderson, Jeremy Fitzgerald, Travis Weise and Ryan Collier.
