The Carson City Planning Commission meets at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, 851 E. William St.

Commissioners will review a special permit request to allow a greenhouse project with vegetable and flower garden plots at Carson High School.

The intent of the project is to provide a teaching center for vocational and educational training in horticulture. It includes a 2,160-square-foot greenhouse, restroom facilities, trash enclosure and approximately 3,050 square feet of vegetable and flower garden plots, according to a staff report.

The food generated from the greenhouse project will be supplied primarily to local food banks, with a small portion to be used in school's culinary arts program. The flowers grown will be sold at the Carson City Farmer's Market and provided for use in the flower baskets that decorate the downtown city core.

Twenty students will be selected for work-study positions.
