As the next step in a process to determine the community's indoor recreation program and facility needs, the Carson City Parks and Recreation Department will conduct an online survey for 10 days in May.
Meetings also will be held May 5 and May 8 to gather public opinion on what direction residents would like the department to take. Some printed surveys will be available.
As much as $6 million could be available to address the need for an indoor facility from Question 18 funds.
Commissioner and Carson City Supervisor Molly Walt said she was concerned that the survey could hold up progress on getting a gym.
"How many years have gone by, and we still don't have a gym?" she asked.
But Parks and Recreation Director Roger Moellendorf said the findings from the survey will allow the department to make better decisions.
"We're as frustrated as anyone else, but we want to make sure our decisions are correct," he said.
Recreation and Operations Manager Joel Dunn said he went through 44 needs assessment surveys from across the country to pull questions that will give Carson City the best glimpse into what the community wants for people of all ages and interests.
