Babbitt named honorable mention All American by AP

Nevada Wolf Pack sophomore forward Luke Babbitt wa named an honorable mention All American by the Associated Press on Monday.

The Galena High graduate is Nevada's first player on the Associated Press' All-American team since Nick Fazekas was named to the second-team in 2007.

Babbitt, the 2010 Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year, finished second in the WAC and ninth in the NCAA with 21.9 points per game this season. It is the highest scoring average for a Wolf Pack player since Darryl Owens averaged 22.7 in 1988-89.

A two-time first-team All-WAC selection, Babbitt shattered Nevada's single-season scoring record this year, finishing with 743 points to pass the 721 Fazekas had in 2005-06. He also led the Wolf Pack and was second in the WAC in rebounding with 8.9 boards per game.

Babbitt set the school single-season records for free throws made with 199 and free throw percentage at 91.7 this year (third in the nation). He also owns the Pack record for consecutive free throws made at 34, breaking Todd Okeson's record of 28 set in 2003-04.

Babbitt was also named an all-district selection by the National Association of Basketball Coaches and the United States Basketball Writers Association and became the first men's basketball player in school history to be named an Academic All-American (by ESPN the Magazine and the College Sports Information Directors of America).
