A man wanted for questioning in connection with a shooting March 22 surrendered to police Monday, while two others have yet to be located.
Gregory Allen Kelly Jr., 23, Kelly declined to speak with investigators and was booked into the Carson City Jail at 1:50 p.m. on suspicion of felony battery with a deadly weapon, felony assault with a deadly weapon, misdemeanor battery and two justice court warrants for probation violation. Bail is set at $37,000.
According to police, around 10 p.m. on March 22, Kelly Jr., his father, Gregory Allen Kelly Sr., 44 and a third man, Antonio Lopez, 23, went to a home on Champion Street to confront a relative's boyfriend, Jorge Meza-Guzman, 29, who was smoking meth with another woman.
When they arrived at the home, Kelly Jr., allegedly held a gun against the head of a man sitting in a vehicle outside, the police report states.
"Gregory Jr. threatened the (man) saying, 'Don't get out of the truck. I'll kill you."
When Meza-Guzman came outside, Lopez allegedly spoke with him in Spanish and Kelly Sr., punched Meza-Guzman in the face, the report states. Kelly Jr. and Kelly Sr. then both began beating on Meza-Guzman.
The girlfriend, who had initiated the incident, then went to her boyfriend's aid and tried to pull the men off Meza-Guzman.
According to the report, at some point Meza-Guzman was able to free himself from the entanglement.
"When Jorge got up to run (the witness) saw Gregory Jr. pull the silver gun from his front pocket, point it at Jorge and shoot," Detective Dena Lacy wrote in the arrest report. "Gregory Sr., Gregory Jr., and Antonio then ran away."
The people at the home helped Meza-Guzman inside and attempted to clean up his wounds. Just after midnight, they dropped him off at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center. He sustained gunshot wounds in the back and the hip. After being flown to Renown Regional Medical Center, Meza-Guzman was treated and released the following afternoon.
Kelly Jr. told detectives he saw that he was wanted in the newspaper and decided to turn himself in.
Lacy said investigators are still looking for Kelly Sr. and Lopez.
