Role Models, Scratch Masters maintain their leads

Role Models and Scratch Masters lead the Mosconi and Comstock divisions in the Carson City chapter of the American Poolplayers Association.

Role Models leads the Mosconi with 48 points, four better than Jerry's Kids and five better than Support Rackless Habits.

Casey Richards of Support Rackless Habits leads the 4-5 tier with 40 points, while Austin Matthews of Jerry's Kids is second at 25. William Kenson of Trouble Makers is third at 24. Don Allred of Scratch Masters leads the 6-7 tier with 41 points, two ahead of

Juan Pina of Twisted Attitudes and Alex Gutierrez of Role Models. Jason Brendel of Twisted Attitudes leads the 1-3 tier with 26 points. Brandy Delaney of Cues Yer Daddy is second at 22 and Mark Gilchrist of Big Dogs is third at 21.

Scratch Masters leads the Comstock with 869 points. Do Work is next at 840 followed by Twisted Stix at 832.

Kirsten Kehe of Twisted Stix leads the 4-5 tier with 33 points, six ahead of Stacey Dauphine of Rattlers. John Vecchiarelli of 9-Spoke and Dennis Sisson Jr. of Flashbacks are third at 26. Allred of Scratch Masters leads the 6-9 tier with 26 points, eight better than teammate Frederick Osterhagen. Pina is third with 10. Gloria Rodriguez of Twisted Stix leads the 1-3 tier with 30 points and James Panos of Scratch Masters and Santos Meza of Tommy's are second at 22.

Four Carson City Tigersharks swimmers - 14-year-old Abby Pittman, 15-year -ld Sophie Holmes, 15-year-old Tim Grunert and 17-year-old Albert Reed - competed in the Junior Olympics Championship meet this past weekend in San Ramon, CA.

Reed dropped an amazing 37 seconds in the 1,650-yard freestyle and placed 7th overall with an 18:17.33. He also dropped on second in the 200-yard fly en route to an eighth-place finish. He dropped 18 seconds in the 1000 freestyle for another personal best of 10:48.32 and a ninth-place finish. Reed also placed 11th in the 500-yard freestyle with a 5:16.49 and 32nd in the 200-yard backstroke with a 2:21.25.

Grunert placed ninth overall in the 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:03.00. He also placed 15th in the 200 breast and dropped three seconds for a personal best time of 2:22.41. Grunert also dropped 2.8 seconds on the 200 backstroke and placed 28th with a 2:11.33.

Pittman dropped 23 seconds in the 1,000-yard freestyle placing 14th with an 11:25.99 and Holmes swam great races in staying very close to her best times on the 200 and 100-yard breastroke.

Ferguson rolls 2nd

300 game of year

Ray Ferguson, competing in the Monday Men's Senior Trio, rolled his second 300 gqme of the season on March 29.

On March 25, Bill Baker rolled games of 259, 268 and 278 en route to an 805, while Jim Bagwell rolled a 299.

Resort play set

for Gray's Crossing

The Golf Club at Gray's Crossing, a Peter Jacobsen-Jim Hardy designed championship golf course nestled in Truckee, is set to open for resort play May 14.

Battle Born golf tourney searching for sponsors

Nevada Day Inc. and the Kiwanis Club of Carson City have once again joined forces for the 7th annual Battle Born Golf Tournament, and they are looking for sponsors.

The event will be June 5 at the Dayton Valley Golf Course. Sponsors will be accepted at any level.

The tournament helps to preserve the Nevada Day Parade in Carson City and provide for the scholastic and trade scholarships awarded by the Kiwanis Club of Carson City each year, said Stevan Lyon, Kiwanian and co-chair of the event.
