A Carson City man who served time in prison for stealing Toyota trucks was jailed Monday in connection with a rash of similar thefts in the area.
William Geiger, 36, was arrested at 5:46 p.m. Monday on suspicion of seven counts of grand larceny, four counts of possession of stolen property, one count of unlawful possession of burglary tools and one count of possession of a stolen vehicle.
Since late February, 10 Toyota 4Runners have gone missing from city streets and parking lots. One victim found shocks, an axle and engine for a 4Runner listed on Craigslist and contacted police.
The victim set up a meeting with Geiger, the Craigslist seller, and, accompanied by a plainclothes officer, met Geiger at his home in the 2900 block of Gillis Way.
There they found the advertised items and the remnants of the man's 4Runner in the backyard. Upon questioning, Geiger allegedly admitted stealing seven Toyota's from around town.
In all but the final case, the Toyotas were stripped of their valuables and left on side streets around town. Geiger allegedly said he sold the loot at a Sparks swap meet. He also allegedly confessed to serving prison time in Washington for stealing Toyotas, according to the arrest report.
Geiger's bail is set at $25,000.
