Stupendous Scheme: Thomas Holister was arrested in San Francisco for tampering with the wires of the Western Union Telegraph Company in one of the boldest attempted stock jobbing plots. He had planned to tap the wires in Battle Mountain and attempted to relay the following information to the New York stock exchange: "At 10 o'clock this morning a tidal wave from the Pacific Ocean swept over San Francisco, wiping out the entire city in 10 minutes. It advanced inland and rose until the waters were 10 feet deep in Sacramento and Stockton. Accompanying this oceanic disturbance was the tremendous shock an of earthquake which was felt most severely at Virginia City. The mines on the Comstock are a mass of ruins. No further particulars can be gained at present ..."

Eighth grade play: "The Galloping Ghost" a mystery operetta will be presented by the eighth grade Carson Junior high school under the direction of Al Saliman, George Shank and Margaret Augustine. The cast includes: Juli Utt, Sharon Case, Sandra White, Jimmie Dunn, Robert Wamstad, Mike Clark and John Frederickson.

The National Science Foundation has awarded more than $12,000 to benefit the science program at Western Nevada Community College.

Rosella Nunez, exhibited the versatility of Carson City's Hispanic youth when she sang, "Como is Flor" by Salena and Patsy Cline's "Walking After Midnight" for the seventh annual "Salute to Youth" luncheon at the Governor's Mansion. The event was sponsored by Nevada Hispanic Services.
