The Preservation Ball, an annual event to benefit the restoration to Piper's Opera House will take place from 7-11 p.m. Saturday at the Tahoe House Hotel in Virginia City.
This is an adult only, Victorian through Edwardian costume event.
Live music will be provided by The Mount Rose Trio with Freddie Pierce, Jimmy Vermilion and Danny Steele. This award-winning group will perform everything from folk music, '20s Ragtime, '40s Jitterbug, '50s Swing and bop through country, classics and pop.
Cost is $16 per person, which includes desserts. A no-host bar is also available. Reservations are required.

High Sierra Swing Dance Club, as a co-production with Brewery Arts Center, presents a six-week series of dance lessons, Wednesdays starting May 19, at the BAC Grand Ballroom, 449 W. King St., Carson City.
Tim Renner will teach beginning country two-step, 6-7 p.m.; West Coast swing intermediate techniques class is 7-8 p.m.; and the nightclub two-step intermediate class is 8-9 p.m. No partner is necessary.

Auditions for Pinkerton Ballet Theatre's Thanksgiving weekend production of "The Nutcracker Ballet" will be held at Ayako's Dance Studio, 2045 California St. in Carson City.
Auditions for girls ages 7 to 11 years will be at 4:30-7: p.m. Thursday, June 3. Boys ages 7 years and older will audition from 5-6 p.m. Friday, June 4. Girls 11 years and older will audition 5 - 7 p.m. Friday, June 4.

The Capital City Community Band will present an Old Fashioned Band Concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 23 in the Boldrick Theater in the Carson City Community Center.
The band will perform a variety of music ranging from classical to show tunes to marches. This concert is reminiscent of the concerts performed during the John Philip Sousa era.
The Capital City Community Band has been providing free concerts for Carson City residents and the surrounding areas since 1979. New members are always welcome. For more information about the band or the concert please call the director, Richard Doede at 883-2219.
