Nobody Asked Us, But ... As summer approaches events pick up

We're so glad everyone doesn't have spell check. It's so refreshing to see new words and meanings crop up from time to time. On the banner across Carson Street as you're driving south, WNC is advertising the Multicultural Festival this weekend ... only the banner read "Multi ulteral Festival" ... so we want to know what an "ulteral" is ... Then we got a flier showing that a local business special: buy one "entry" and get one half off. Geez, up to now we could get in free. Someone also forgot that "parot" has two "r's." Arrrgh. But thanks for the laughs.

Since we're in a happy mood ... birthday congrats go out to Coe Swobe and Steve Sedillas. And a happy 51st anniversary to two of our favorite people, Jenny and Ed Cordisco. Deacon Bob Evans is celebrating his 25th anniversary of becoming a deacon in the Catholic church ... very nice ... and there will be a reception this morning for him after the 9:30 a.m. Mass. And last, and apparently least, is a belated happy B-day to Karen Ferriera who turned "29" on April 1. April Fools (teehee).

Jamie's "Nana" is at it again ... she fell and injured her hand a while back. Her hand became swollen, and, as she looked at it, she remarked about how "pretty it looked" because the swelling took all the wrinkles out of it. She then looked at Jamie and said, "Next time I fall, make sure I fall on my face." Way to go, Nana.

D'Vine Wine, as you sadly know, is going out of business; however, Kim is selling all the things in the business, so, if you're interested, go into D'Vine Wine on Stewart Street between 10 a.m. and noon May 24-27, and make a bid ... you may get a real bargain. St. Teresa School is holding a golf tournament on June 14 at Hidden Valley Country Club in Reno to benefit the school. For those of you who missed the showing of the completely refurbished McKeen Motor Car at the Nevada State Railroad Museum last weekend, you missed a gem. Beautifully restored by Chris DeWitt, Lee Hobold, Rick Stiver and others, it was a joy to ride on. Hopefully, they will take it out again soon and let the public have another chance to ride. Fittingly, Al Bernhard, who gave the car to the museum, got to take it around the track as the first rider a month or so ago. Great job, guys.

Mike Nunes gave us this off the Internet: "Our lawn mower broke, so my wife kept hinting we should get it fixed. I kept putting it off for the truck, the car, playing golf ... you know, the important things. She thought she'd be clever, so one day I came home to find her snipping away at the grass with a tiny pair of sewing scissors. I watched for a minute, then went in the house and handed her a toothbrush and said, 'When you finish cutting the grass, you might as well sweep the driveway.' The doctors say I will walk again, but I will always have a limp."
