William Carl Mitchell, 84, of Carson City passed away on April 5, 2010. He leaves his devoted wife, Holly Bacon Mitchell to whom he was married for more than 60 years, son William in Arizona; daughter Barbara Brooks in Florida; and three grandchildren, Tara, Ryan and James Manasse. Bill is also survived by two sisters, Anne (Robert) Soule and Winifred (Winnie) O'Connor, both of West Haven.
Bill worked on the establishment of technical requirements for the new Pacific Fleet Commander-In-Chief headquarters (CINCPAC) in Hawaii, and in 1979 and 1980, on the installation and testing of the NASA Data Tracking and Relay Satellite System (TDRSS) ground station at White Sands, N.M. Following retirement from TRW in 1981, he worked as a consultant engineer on several additional spacecraft programs, but also on such projects as the computerization of the FBI Identification Division data information storage. His other interests included music, swimming, boating and skiing.
