A 30-year-old Lyon County man accidentally shot himself as he drove along Highway 50 East in Mark Twain on Wednesday, an official said.
Lyon County Sheriff's Capt. Rob Hall said emergency crews were called out to the area of Occidental Drive and Highway 50 East about 11:30 a.m. where they found the man in his vehicle with a gunshot wound to the thigh.
The man told police he was westbound when his gun slid onto the floorboard of his vehicle when he hit his brakes. When he reached down to pick it up, he accidentally fired a shot into his leg, said Hall.
The man, whose name was not released, was taken by ambulance to the Carson City airport. He was airlifted from the airport by Care Flight helicopter to Renown Regional Medical Center with a non-life-threatening injury.
Hall said the incident is under investigation.
