SALT LAKE CITY - A new private college planned for Nevada would promote values of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and provide an alternative to Brigham Young University.
Those organizing Desert Valley College say they hope to open in the fall of 2012.
Supporters plan to locate the campus in Logandale, Nev., about an hour away from Las Vegas, though land for the school has not been secured yet.
Director Rex Jensen says many Mormon students would like to attend BYU but either don't get in or choose not to attend.
He says Desert Valley College would have small class sizes and a BYU-type honor code and dress code.
Organizers hope to have several hundred students enrolled for the first year of classes.
