Happy Senior Tours travels to Boomtown

The Carson City Senior Center's "Happy Senior Tours" group will travel to Boomtown June 8. To make a reservation, or for more information, call 882-3352.

The bus will load at 7:45 a.m. in the east parking lot of the senior center on Beverly Drive. It will depart at 8:15 a.m. sharp and return to the center at

4 p.m.

Senior Health Fair offered in Dayton

The Dayton Senior Center will conduct a senior health fair as part of the 2010 National Senior Health and Fitness Day. The fair is designed to give seniors and their families the opportunity to interact first-hand with medical and health professionals, as well as representatives from important senior-related programs and services.

The event is set for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Dayton Senior Center located at 320 Old Dayton Road.

Golf to save the Nevada Day parade

The Kiwanis Battle Born Golf Tournament will begin with a shotgun start at

9 a.m. June 5 at Dayton Valley Golf Course.

Cost is $95 per player, which includes continental breakfast, cart, range balls, lunch and goodie bag.

Proceeds help fund the Nevada Day parade and the Kiwanis Scholarship Fund.

Talent show Wednesday

Students enrolled in the Carson City school district grades 1-8 are invited to showcase their talents at a talent show at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Carson High School. Those interested should call 775-315-2584 to confirm participation. Admission is $5 or five cans of food for those who just want to come and show support. Donations will go to the Friends In Service Helping food closet and scholarship funds for the Miss Nevada/Miss Outstanding Teens pageant.

Presentation to focus on Pony Express site

Dr. Donald L. Hardesty, professor of anthropology at the University of Nevada, Reno will present Archaeological Perspectives on the Pony Express in Nevada at 7 p.m. May 27 at the Nevada State Museum.

Regular admission fees apply and doors open at

6 p.m. for main building exhibit viewing prior to the lecture.

Archaeological research at several way stations on the pony express trail in Northern Nevada has revealed new information about the lifestyles and historical events associated with these remote places.

The museum is located at 600 N. Carson St. Admission is $8 for adults and free children 17 and younger and museum members.
