New lake steamer: Baldwin's new Lake Tahoe steamer will arrive in this city. The boat is sixty feet long and weighs 16,000 pounds. It will take at least 4,000 pounds of lumber to make the racks for hauling it for a total weight of ten tons, and will require twenty horses and seven men to get it over the mountain.

Thanks to a $110 million surplus, more than 20,000 state employees, public school teachers and professors will get a 5 percent pay hike according to Governor Bob Miller.
