Nobody asked us, but ... You are warned: The world might end

There are lots of things to be aware of, so don't feign ignorance on this one. In "Desert Sky" (the Jack C. Davis Observatory newsletter) President Mike Thomas warns us that the Milky Way galaxy (of which we are a member) is careening toward the Andromeda galaxy at a million miles per hour and will eventually merge with unknown results. Of course, this will not take place until three billion years from now, but it's never too late to get ready. Don't say you weren't warned.

We'll be struck by arrows for this one, but we see that Mark the Love God - isn't that what Amo (love) and Dei (god) translate to? - has been named head of the Republican party in Nevada. Congratulations, and may we all be blessed by his holy vibes.

St. Teresa's school had a fun run last week to raise money for the school. Kids and parents alike were seen running through the streets however, we think that some of the money should buy Father Chuck a membership to an athletic club, since he was the last one to complete the run. (FC ... we have "spies.")

Rhonda Knox sent this goodie from the Internet: "Al and Janet had church members over for dinner and decided to pick mushrooms from the pasture to go with the steaks. Janet thought that the wild mushrooms might be poisonous, but Al said he saw varmints eating them and were OK. To be sure, Janet gave their dog, Spot, a handful. She watched him all morning and he did just fine, so she decided to serve them. The meal was a great success, followed by chitchat. Just then, a friend came in and whispered, 'Janet, Spot just died.' Hysterically, Janet called the doctor. He ordered everyone to the hospital to have their stomachs pumped. Everyone was looking weak when the same friend came over to Janet and said, 'You know, that fellow who ran over Spot never even stopped.'"

Happy first anniversary to Ashli and Christopher Van Zant (their new baby's coming any minute). Happy 13th birthday to Jamie Allred ... gee, Jamie, in three years you'll be driving. Another happy day to Frannie Burns of Yerington, who will be 100 years old this week. Have a wonderful party. HB to Nancy Gourley, too, the Big C's sister. Thanks to Mike's Pharmacy for being so nice. We do have many great businesses in town.

If you didn't see WNC's "The Sound of Music," you missed a real treat (however, Stephanie Arrigotti made Maizie promise not to sing out loud with the Mother Abbess ... dang). One of their actors, Gene Sitts, who played Rolf, is being deployed to Afghanistan very soon on his second deployment. Please send him your good thoughts.
