CARSON CITY (AP) - The city of Reno is siding with the Clean Water Coalition in Clark County opposing an attempt by the Nevada Legislature to take $62 million raised for southern Nevada sewer projects to balance the state budget.
In a "friend of the court" brief filed with the state Supreme court, Reno asks justices to reject the Legislature's action taken during February's special session.
The coalition has refused to turn the money over, and the state and Legislature have filed suit with the Supreme Court.
The coalition and the M Resort Spa Casino in Henderson also filed lawsuits, arguing that the state lacks legal authority to take money from an account funded by ratepayers for the specific purpose of a clean water project in southern Nevada.
