Kids and Horses announces new executive director
Kids and Horses, a non-profit education program that teaches horsemanship, announced last week it hired Alexis Roman Hill as its first full-time executive director.
Hill's goals are to start a consistent year-round grant writing program, design and implement a year-round corporate and philanthropic sponsorship program, organize the annual barbecue fundraiser held on Sept. 11 and pursue other potential revenue sources.
Alexis is leaving her position at the sales supervisor for the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival. She also has served as a City Planner for the City of Sparks.
She received a degree from Texas A&M in political science in 2005 and is pursuing a masters in public administration at University of Nevada, Reno.
Ensign to address community business group
Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev., will address the Community Business and Leaders Forum in Minden on Tuesday.
The events starts at 8 a.m. inside the Minden Holiday Inn Express, 1659 Highway 88. Coffee and light refreshments will be provided.

Jackpot Crossing to
host grand opening
Jackpot Crossing Casino, 1897 North Edmonds Dr., will host a grand opening on 1-10 p.m. Saturday.
The event includes a slot tournament and grand prize drawing at 10 p.m. for a slot machine.
"We are excited to open our newest property in Carson City," said Scott Tate, the general manager of the casino. "The casino is new and fresh and is a great addition to the Carson City entertainment market."
The casino employs more than 30 people.
Shaheen Beauchamp Builders LLC, a commercial contracting firm based in Carson City, worked on the renovation.
Designed by Frank Woodliff Architect of Fallon, the 20,000 square foot building, formerly the Silver Dollar Casino, received an extensive exterior makeover, system upgrades and significant improvement to the gaming area, interior finishes and casino amenities.
"The change in the exterior appearance is dramatic and the interior is inviting and exciting," said Mark Beauchamp of Shaheen Beauchamp Builders. "It is hard to believe it is the same building."
New appointee to
energy task force
Susan Fisher was appointed to the New Energy Industry Task Force, Hatice Gecol, the Nevada Energy Commissioner, announced last week.
Fisher is an advisory member, representing Valley Electric Association for the seat of electric utility.
Fisher, a graduate of the University of Nevada Reno, has lived and worked in northern Nevada for more than 30 years. She is the owner of Fisher Consulting, a political advocacy firm representing a variety of private business interests, utility issues, local governmental entities and state regulatory boards.
Fisher has served on the Board of Directors of the National Championship Air Races and the President's Legislative Steering Committee at UNR for the past 15 years, among many other organizations.
The Task Force consists of eight members, six advisory members and is chaired by the Commissioner.
The Task Force promotes the development of renewable energy and energy efficiency projects in Nevada.
Meeting for marketers planned for Wednesday
The Carson Area Marketing and PR Network will meet on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at the Marilyn Lewis State Farm office at 321 W. Winnie Lane in Carson City.
The meeting is free and new members are welcome.

AT&T announces new Nevada company president
Stephanie Tyler-Jackson, a former state senator, was named president of AT&T Nevada on Thursday.
Tyler-Jackson will be involved with new technology deployment and infrastructure investment, as well as leading the company's regulatory, legislative and community affairs activities in Nevada.
She previously served as executive director of external affairs for AT&T's Western Region with responsibility for supporting legislative, governmental, regulatory, and community affairs across its 17-state region.
Tyler-Jackson is a graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno, with a degree in political
science. She will have offices in Reno and Las Vegas.
