Claire Clift, secretary of the Nevada Senate for the past 10 years, has resigned at the request of Majority Leader Steven Horsford, D-Las Vegas.

"I'm taking him at his word, face value, he just wants to move in a different direction," she said Thursday.

The Senate secretary manages the Senate staff, including the temporary secretaries hired for senators during session and her staff on the Senate floor during session.

The secretary, from the podium, helps the lieutenant governor preside over floor sessions, reading bill introductions and amendments.

"I respect that, as majority leader, he has that choice to do that and have the secretary of the Senate who works for him be someone else," she said.

Horsford declined to explain his action, citing privacy for personnel issues. He said only it was time for a change.
