Tod B. Jennings sent in this photo of a black bear spotted in Virginia City on Saturday. He writes:
"It was about 3:15 and I was driving home from the car show in Virginia City when I came upon a number of cars parked across the street from the Fourth Ward School. Having learned in Yellowstone that where there are people stopped, there's usually something worth seeing, I pulled over.
"In the pit across the street from the school was a pretty good-sized black bear. From the looks of it, the bear had fallen into the pit and wasn't sure which way was out. He moved south, but there was no chance of climbing out that way so he moved to the north end of the pit, where eventually he managed to climb up and out into a small stand of trees.
"It seemed someone had dumped some garbage as he stopped for what looked to be a snack. After maybe five minutes he moved on up and completely out of site. One of the deputies responding to the call said he's been in Storey County for six years and never received a bear call, until that day when he received three."
