The attorney general's office is warning Nevadans that scammers are trying to get personal information from people using prerecorded telemarketing calls.
A spokesman said the calls offer credit repair and loan modification services. But when the consumer pushed the button to talk to a representative, the recording says no one is available to take the call. It then asks the consumer for their name, address, account number and even Social Security number, promising that a loan officer will call back.
"This is a scam to collect personal identity information from the unsuspecting victim," according to a warning issued by the attorney general's office.
The warning cautions consumers never to give personal information over the phone.
