A storm system is expected to pass through the region on Sunday, with snow levels approaching the 6,000-foot level, according to the National Weather Service.
Meteorologist Jim Wallmann said the valleys will receive most of the rain Sunday afternoon and evening, with an expected quarter-inch falling in the Carson City area. He said no snow is expected below 5,500 feet.
"There will be a little bit of wind ahead of it, nothing spectacular," Wallmann said. "Maybe at most the strongest wind gust will be 30 mph to 35 mph."
A cold front is expected to follow the storm on Sunday, bringing high temperatures in the high 40s to low 50s. Another storm system also may reach the region by Tuesday or Wednesday with snow possibly falling at lake level at Lake Tahoe.
