Donations are being sought for a soldier care package program called "Take a Soldier to the Movies."
Organizer P.J. Degross said the program was so successful last year that she's decided to resurrect it. People are being asked to prepare Ziploc bags stuffed with everything U.S. troops serving in overseas conflicts will need to enjoy a night at the movies.
The bags should contain two new or used DVDs, four bags of microwave popcorn, four packets of pre-sweetened drink mix, four boxes of theater-sized candy and a Christmas greeting card. Degross is asking that for every movie package you submit, you also donate $2 toward shipping costs if possible.
Degross is founder of Web of Support, a nationally recognized soldier-adoption program based in Carson City that matches up families in the U.S. with deployed soldiers to whom they send care packages and cards. Degross said that to participate people just need to assemble a package and drop it off at Charley's Grilled Subs in the Carson Mall.
Packages will be collected through Nov. 30.
