Grave Yard: Sam Wright was informed there was a man out at the grave yard mutilating tombstones. This sacrilege roused the undertaker. "What in ___ are you about!" Some explanation followed, and the despoiler of grave yards proved to be Col. Shaw, engaged in writing the history of Nevada.

All sorts: An Indian called at the Ormsby House and wanted to sell some fish. Mr. Kaiser said they smelt bad. "Well sposen do," answered the Indian, "You no eatum smell."

Seen, Heard or Thought: The Appeal is mentioned in the November 11, 1940 issue of Life Magazine - page 12 - The lines: "Sarah Bernhardt kissed Sam Davis (Appeal editor), after an interview in 1907, remarking 'The right cheek for the Appeal, the left for the Examiner and the lips for yourself.' 'Madam,' said Davis, 'I also represent the A.P. which serves 380 papers west of the Mississippi alone!'"
