CFB: Tide rolls past Georgia State

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - No. 10 Alabama got all the yards, points and big plays, with none of the drama.

That comes next week.

Greg McElroy completed 12 of 13 passes for 159 yards and two touchdowns and the Crimson Tide routed fledgling Georgia State 63-7 on Thursday night, then quickly moved on to No. 2 Auburn and the Iron Bowl.

It was the most points for the Crimson Tide (9-2) since a 66-3 win over Vanderbilt in 1979.

"It's pretty much what we expected coming in," said Mark Barron, who had one of the Tide's four interceptions. "The game plan was pretty simple so everybody was able to come out and just play."

The game against a Football Championship Subdivision team competing in its first year of college football was predictably little more than a warmup for next week's showdown with the Tigers. The Panthers (6-5) are led by former Tide coach Bill Curry, who was more accustomed to being on the other side of Bryant-Denny Stadium abuse.

"Alabama has a great football team, I think the best Alabama team I've ever seen," Curry said. "Maybe the best Nick Saban team I've ever seen.

"My fervent desire and what we worked hard to prepare to do was to not be overwhelmed by the whole scene, but we were. We were utterly overwhelmed."

McElroy set an Alabama single-game completion percentage mark of 92.3 with a minimum of 10 attempts. Mark Ingram ran for 86 yards and a touchdown and Julio Jones caught seven passes for 86 yards and two scores before the stars yielded to the backups in the second quarter.

UCLA 7

SEATTLE (AP) - Jake Locker scored on a 3-yard run in the first half, and Quinton Richardson returned an interception 28 yards for a touchdown with 6:22 left to help Washington keep its fledgling bowl hopes alive with an ugly win over UCLA.

With Locker trying to protect a cracked rib, the Huskies (4-6, 3-4 Pac-10) turned to the combo of running back Chris Polk and freshman Jesse Callier. Polk carried 25 times for a career-high 138 yards and capped the second-best night of his career with a 2-yard TD plunge with 4:24 left.

Callier added 110 yards as the Huskies ran for a season-high 253 yards against the Bruins (4-6, 2-5).

Erik Folk kicked a 27-yard field goal on the first possession of the second half to give Washington a 10-7 lead. That remained in jeopardy until Richardson stepped in front of Darius Bell's pass.

Playing a prime-time Thursday game, the Huskies broke out all black uniforms for the first time in school history, even going as far as painting the end zones of Husky Stadium black.

AIR FORCE 35, UNLV 20

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Tim Jefferson threw a touchdown pass and had three short scoring runs to help Air Force beat UNLV 35-20 on Thursday night in the Falcons' regular-season finale.

Jefferson passed for 111 yards and ran for 64 for the Falcons.

Asher Clark ran for 83 yards, and Jonathan Warzeka had a 54-yard touchdown run and finished with 64 yards rushing and 46 yards receiving.

Omar Clayton completed 18 of 30 passes for 223 yards, including a 36-yard touchdown strike to Phillip Payne for UNLV (2-9, 2-5), which led 17-7 in the second quarter.
