Senator Square: 'Long View' set for stage

Carson High School's theater company, Carson Performing Arts, will present a social awareness piece called "The Long View" at the Carson Community Center, 7 p.m. Dec. 1. This one-hour production written by Alan Haehnel shows typical kids at a typical day at a high school when a fight breaks out. The participants and observers all reflect on how that one moment changed their lives forever. Donation at the door. This week's Senior Spotlight is on Edgar Casildo. He has a current grade point average of 4.07, taking classes in Human Anatomy, Trigonometry, Concert Choir, Honors French, AP Government, and AP English. He is active in the school involved as the captain of Speech and Debate team, a member of National Honor Society, and a volunteer at Computer Corps. In the future Edgar plans on attending Columbia University or New York University majoring in economics or political science. Good luck to you, Edgar!

Last week, Carson High's Student Council conducted the annual Thanksgiving Scavenger Hunt. With 10 teams of four individuals, the amount of food collected was phenomenal. From turkeys to noodles, and stuffing to canned foods, students who participated in this event collected almost 3,200 items of food to donate to FISH for the holiday season.

During the Scavenger Hunt, each team had two hours to collect as much food as possible by collecting from door to door, going to stores/businesses, and rummaging through their own pantries. The team who won the title of the night consisted of Ashley Saarem, Danny Gall, Spencer Hollenbeck Pringle, and Adam Whitt. Congratulations to them!

This week's Student of the Week award was awarded to senior Kate Shultz. By maintaining exemplary standards in her work, she has proven herself to be a deserving candidate for this award. We would like to thank her for being a role model student in our high school.

Coming up this next week is the 18th annual academic letter ceremony on Monday. Commencing at 6 p.m., students will be awarded with academic letter awards to recognize their academic achievements throughout their high school career. In order for a student to qualify for an academic letter, he or she must attain a certain grade-point average. We hope to conduct a fabulous event and make this year's ceremony memorable.
