Methodist Church hosting Living Nativity

Carson City First United Methodist Church will present its 10th annual Living Nativity from 6:30-8 p.m. Dec. 11 and 12 at the intersection of Musser and Division streets and the drive-through begins at the corner of King and Division streets.

Visitors also are encouraged to walk the "Path to Bethlehem," which is lighted by more than 800 luminaries.

A voluntary donation of non-perishable food is requested.

Started 10 years ago, the Living Nativity occupies a city block and comprises 10 scenes depicting the story of Jesus' birth. The scenes are enacted with the help of more than 200 church members and include living animals.

Ski/snowboard instructors wanted

The Carson City Recreation Division is looking for volunteer ski and snowboard instructors for the 2011 Junior Ski/Snowboard Program.

Volunteers must be 18 years or older and must be committed to teaching and/or chaperoning for six Sundays beginning in January. Free lift tickets for afternoon skiing/snowboarding will be provided.

City Audit Committee volunteer sought

The Carson City Board of Supervisors is seeking applications from those interested in serving on the Audit Committee in the Citizen at Large category.

Citizens at Large should have experience in financial services, public accounting, and/or governmental auditing, and current knowledge of public laws and regulations governing an audit committee.

Applicants should be aware this committee requires a minimum commitment of up to three hours a month. All members serve without compensation.

There are two vacancies for terms that will expire in December 2012. Supervisors will interview and appoint qualified persons to the Audit Committee. Members must be residents and registered voters of Carson City.

Volunteer applications may be obtained from and returned to the Carson City Executive Offices, 201 N. Carson St. #2. Applications will be accepted until Dec. 15.

Gardnerville home offers 'adopt an elder'

Carson Valley Residential Care Center, an assisted living community in Gardnerville, is hosting an "adopt an elder" program for low-income residents.

Tax deductible donations may be made to pay for medical prescriptions, dental care and dentures, eyeglasses, hearing aid batteries and other similar expenses that are not covered by Medicare or Medicaid.

In addition, other amenities, such as simple lunch outings; admission to community events, shopping for personal hygiene items, clothing or even snacks to have available in their own rooms would be considered a luxury.

To help these seniors, donations can be made payable to Young At Heart, a 501(c) 3 organization. Donations can be mailed to Carson Valley Residential Care Center at 1189 Kimmerling Road, Gardnerville, NV 89460 or Young At Heart, P.O. Box 1042 Gardnerville, NV 89410.

Wells Fargo hosts holiday party

Wells Fargo is hosting its 10th annual holiday party for the children and mentors of The Boys and Girls Club Mentor Center at the Highway 50 Branch from 6:30-8 p.m. Dec. 8.

This event, which began 10 years ago, is the Mentor Center's largest function of the year; and is through partnership from Wells Fargo, A Catered Affair and Starbucks on Highway 50.

Every year the Carson City Wells Fargo branches host the Mentors and Mentees in their branch with food, fun, games and Santa. They gift the Mentor Center $10 a child for a gift that Santa delivers at the end of the party.

For many of the children who are being mentored, this is the biggest present they receive during the holiday season. They also set up decorations, and plan crafts/games for all of the mentees to enjoy. It's an excellent chance to see the power of community support from businesses, as well as to really highlight Wells Fargo, Starbucks, and A Catered Affair's 10 years of dedication.
