RENO (AP) - A Reno-area man is facing charges for allegedly shooting his neighbor's barking dog with a BB gun.

Forty-three year old Toby George Preuett of Golden Valley was arrested Saturday by Washoe County sheriff's deputies on suspicion of animal cruelty and discharging a firearm in a congested area. He posted bail and was released from jail.

The Australian heeler named Josie was shot in the shoulder and is expected to recover.

Preuett reportedly told deputies he wasn't trying to kill the dog, but wanted to make it stop barking. Officers found 22 pellet holes in his neighbor's fence.

A sheriff's spokesman said residents should contact regional animal services if they have complaints about barking dogs.
