Obituary: Ronald Thomas Hughes

Ronald Thomas Hughes passed away quietly after a lengthy illness on Thursday morning, September 30, 2010 at the South Lyon Medical Center in Yerington. He was 72.

Ron was born on February 18, 1938 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of Cloyd and Charlotte (Austin) Hughes.

Ron moved to Yerington in 1956 with his parents and two brothers. He attended Yerington High School, where he met his future bride Barbara Souther. They were married in 1958. Ron had worked for the City of Yerington for over 30 years. He had also been a volunteer firefighter for over 30 years. Ron enjoyed camping, golf and spending time with his family.

Ron is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara; his children, Linda Gentry and her husband Bruce Manning and Cheryl and her husband Steve Davis; his grandchildren, Nicole Petersen, Robert Gentry, Tonya Petersen and Richie Davis; his great-grandchild, Rhyan Gutierrez; his brother, Dennis Hughes and sister, Nancy Alrich; and his mother, Betty Hughes.

A visitation will be held 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, October 6 at the Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home 25 Hwy 208 Yerington. Ron's funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, October 7 at the Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home with burial in the family plot at Valley View Cemetery.
