What's your take on the 10th, Dr. Paslov?
Dr. Paslov again assures us there is a positive correlation between dollars spent per student and student outcomes. He assures, so it must be so.
He cites Thomas Jefferson as a supporter of education. He certainly was. Would Jefferson have supported federal standards, management, funding and control of local education? Because Jefferson also supported that inconvenient, doggone 10th Amendment, I don't think so. Does Paslov support the 10th Amendment? It is part of the Constitution, you know.

Live in the present, enjoy whatever life offers
The lesson that I seem to be picking up on these days is that there is no purpose in living in regret of the days prior to this one - not one. What's done is done.
No tomorrow is guaranteed. So, if this is the only time we actually are assured of having, are we enjoying it to the hilt? Where I live, I see folks who don't hurt, can see, hear, walk and have their teeth - and they can find something to complain about every other minute.
Then I see others who are blind, can't hear, are in mechanical wheelchairs, paralyzed and have false teeth, and they play games by being told where to aim, or what cards are up and what's in their hand, and sometimes they win.
What seems more and more obvious to me is that we can concentrate our minds on whatever we choose, but unless we have learned how powerful the process of thought is, we are condemning ourselves to doom.
Everything we need today, this minute, is patiently, idly waiting for our minds to come pick up the stick and run with it. Time is of the essence. Start out by appreciating who you are, where you are, with whatever you have. A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

Leave Clear Creek issue to proper parties
Carson City's Open Space Advisory Committee stated during its meeting on the issue of access to public lands from the privately owned and maintained Old Clear Creek Road that the committee and the city had no jurisdiction over the private road.
In fact, some members of the committee questioned why they were even getting involved since they had no jurisdiction on the matter and people who want to gain access to the public lands at the west-end/dead-end of the road can obtain access by taking the new on-ramp and off-ramp of Highway 50/Spooner without even driving on the private portion of Old Clear Creek Road.
The committee stated that it wanted to redraft an advisory letter to the board of supervisors requesting the supervisors to restrict the property owners from placing a gate at the west end of the private road. The committee also stated that this would be the third time that the issue of Old Clear Creek Road has been brought up to the committee.
Patrick Pittenger, Carson City transportation director, advised the committee that he and his department have studied the issue for approximately one year and determined that the road is private, owned by the property owners, and the matter is ultimately in the hands of the homeowners.
Let the proper agency/department handle the issue and quit interfering with the issues that the committee has no authority or jurisdiction over.

Look at Livermore's two-lane success story
There have been a number of comments published pro and con reducing Carson Street to two lanes.
I would ask the city planners to take a look at cities which have accomplished the change to two lanes and evaluate the results.
The city of Livermore, Calif., reduced the four lanes on First Street to two lanes a few years ago. The results have been fantastic. The area has been transformed into a cultural hub with many new upscale restaurants and cultural centers for performing arts activities, and lots of trees, flowers and seating along the sidewalks.
This change has brought new businesses and draws many tourists and local folks into this downtown area. I suggest that Livermore be visited and pictures taken and published in the Nevada Appeal. Livermore is only a few hours away and well worth a visit.
