RENO - Carson High's girls soccer team maintained its stranglehold on the top spot in the Sierra League with a 2-1 win over Damonte Ranch Tuesday night.
Carson improved to 9-0-1, extending its winning streak to nine straight since an opening season tie against Reno.
Carson scored in the fifth minute when Kenzie Tillitt headed in a cross against Kate Schulz. Seven minutes later, Kaitlyn Holmes scored an unassisted goal to make it 2-0.
Damonte scored in the closing seconds of the first half. The wet ball went through the gloves of goalie Emmy Heller. The defense tried to clear but it was unsuccessful.
Carson had a couple of good looks in the second half, but it was tough kicking a rain-soaked ball, according to Carson coach Randy Roser.
"We played well," Roser said. "We were moving the ball well. I never felt we were in any danger of losing the match. I thought we controlled things pretty well."
Carson returns to action at 1 p.m. Saturday against Hug.
