A Dayton woman was injured this morning on Fairview Drive in front of the National Guard Armory when a soldier turned in front of the vehicle she was riding in, deputies said.

According to Carson City Sheriff's Deputy Martha Tschetter, guardsman Pfc. Shawn Shue, 19, of Carson City, was northbound on Fairview Drive about 7:30 a.m. in a 1998 Chevy Cavalier when he attempted to pull into the armory in front of a southbound 2010 Honda Civic driven by Eugene Herbert, 65, of Dayton.

The impact deployed the airbags in Herbert's vehicle and cause extensive damage to both vehicles. Herbert's wife, Mary Herbert, 71, complained of difficulty breathing and had an injury to her mouth. She was taken from the scene by helicopter. Her injuries were not believed to be life threatening.

The accident shut down traffic at the scene for about an hour.

Shue was cited for failure to yield and carrying an expired insurance card.
