Boys & Girls Clubs reaches financial goal
Heartfelt thanks from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada to so many individuals who made it possible for us to reach our financial goal at our Annual Kids Auction and World's Greatest BBQ.
First of all, it wouldn't be possible to hold the event if not for the coordinated effort led by Jennifer Russell and Buzz Fitzpatrick, board co-chairs who guided our board and staff. Mike Pegram once again stepped up as the major sponsor, we are so fortunate to have him as a contributing member of our community.
Carson Station and their amazing staff and volunteers, Red's Old 395, L & L Hawaiian BBQ, A Catered Affaire, Model Dairy, Capital Beverages, Doppelga-ngers, Farmer Brothers Coffee, Nevada Johns, ALSCO, Carson City Parks and Recreation, Miles Construction and a host of others made it possible to provide great food and beverage for the event.
Thanks to the Nevada Appeal, Charter Communications and 103.7 the River for promoting the event.
A complete list of donors was included in our program that the Nevada Appeal published and it can also be found on our website bgcwn.org. The list is just so long and impressive, thanks to everyone who donated or purchased items.
In the most difficult economic climate the community rallied to support the kids and on behalf of them, the staff and board of directors I thank you.

Thank you volunteers
of Pets of the Homeless
Pets of the Homeless would like to thank veterinarian Dr. Woody Allen (V&T Veterinary Clinic), Tish Allen, Ray Frederick and Jim Gustafson (Nevada Multimedia Productions) for their time and assistance at the "Homeless Connect" on Saturday in the Carson City Health & Human Services parking lot.
Pets of the Homeless gave away over 400 pounds of pet food, provided vaccines, treatment and exams to over 40 dogs and cats. People waiting in line, in the heat, with their pets were patient and thankful for the kindness and veterinary care their pets received from Dr. Allen. The Pets of the Homeless tables were without a doubt the busiest organization at the event.
Our volunteers stayed until the last dog and cat were served. These and others like them across the country are the backbone of our organization and we thank them. Vaccinated pets help keep communities healthy and safe.

Green living festival turned out great
The Sustainable Living and Renewable Energy Roundup would like to thank everyone who participated in the Green Living Festival on Sept. 11 and made it such a great event.
We are grateful to GE Energy for their generous donation, to Douglas Disposal, McClain's Mobile Music, and Sierra Creek Graphics for their donation of services, to Russell's Mercantile for the awesome bread rolls, Kim Mileo for the cookie dough, and WalMart for smoothie supplies.
Thanks to the wonderful exhibitors (may you have many new customers as a result!) and to Bob Tregulis for recruiting the Tesla Roadsters and electric motorcycles, and Lira's and the Boardroom Chef for feeding us all so well.
Thanks to the speakers who gave up their Saturday and put together Power Point presentations, brought props, handouts, and livestock and shared their expertise, all for free.
A big thanks to the volunteer crew - Tom and Deb Gardia, Jan Walls, Jean Andrews, and Austin Willis, kids from 4-H, the DHS Environmental Club, and Gardnerville Elementary fifth and sixth grades, and Master Gardeners and Great Basin Outdoor School.
Kudos to the Town of Gardnerville and Parks Department for being a joy to work with, and the Extension office staff who we impose on endlessly, yet they still let us in the door.
Let's do it again next year. Keep up with future events at www.greenlivingfest.org, including a tour of the Ormat geothermal facility Nov. 10.
