A gunman who announced himself by yelling the name of his gang opened fire on Airport Road tonight, firing several rounds at or near an apartment complex, but apparently not hitting anything.

Deputies were called out the 3400 block of Airport Road, near Pontius Place just south of College Parkway about 10:30 p.m. Saturday.

Sheriff Ken Furlong said it appeared no one and nothing was hit.

Witnesses reported seeing a white Cutlass or Cadillac sedan with spoke wheels occupied by several people fleeing south on Airport Road.

The driver was reportedly a bald male, and witnesses reported seeing the gunfire come from the driver's side of the vehicle.

The incident closed traffic in both directions in the area on Airport Road for about an hour.

The road was reopened about 11:30 p.m.
