Transportation commission to discuss gateway sign project

Carson City's Regional Transportation Commission members will hear an update about the city's plans for a gateway sign project when they meet Wednesday evening.

Staff will give a project status update, then provide information regarding the use of solar lighting for the project since standard grid power is not readily available at any of the sign locations.

Also on their Wednesday agenda, commissioners will:

• Take action on a contract with the Nevada Appeal for a a two-year advertising program for the Jump Around Carson public transit system.

• Hear information about the grants coordination and tracking policy for the RTC.

• Take action on a grant award from the Nevada Division of Aging and Disability Services in the amount of $30,000 for the period of Oct. 1 through June 30, 2011, for free bus passes for senior citizens on the fixed-route system.

• Hear information regarding the planned closure of Old Clear Creek Road in Carson City and Douglas County. A gate has not yet been installed on Old Clear Creek Road, but discussions continue regarding the location and timing of the gate installation, as well as the ability of non-motorized users to utilize the road.

• Take action to accept the intersection work on Silver Oak Drive and North Carson Street, and make a payment to Sierra Nevada Construction, Inc. in the amount of about $318,000.

The Regional Transportation Commission meets immediately following the CAMPO meeting, which starts at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William St.

The Carson Area Metropolitan Planning Organization will:

• Hear information regarding an amendment to the fiscal year 2011-14 Transportation Improvement Program.

• Hear information regarding a proposed amendment to the fiscal year 2011 Unified Planning Work Program.

• Hear information regarding the proposed Trangle Transit Service connecting Carson City, South Lake Tahoe, Minden and Gardnerville.

The Carson City Historic Resources Commission meets at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William St.

Commissioners are scheduled to:

• Consider a request from Julie's Sign Shoppe to install one two-sided, non-illuminated, free-standing sign designed to match existing building signage on property zoned residential office at 990 N. Minnesota St.

• Discuss an update of the Historic Preservation Fund grant for 2010.

• Take possible action on future Historic Preservation Fund grant projects for 2011.
