CHS sweeps Hug

Carson High's volleyball team rolled to a 25-5, 31-29 and 25-18 win over Hug in a Northern 4A crossover volleyball match Tuesday night at Morse Burley Gymnasium.

Carson improved to 7-4 entering Thursday's showdown against rival Douglas in Minden at 6 p.m.

Carson played without all three of its setters - Courtney Hack (concussion), Bailey Valente (back) and Elizabeth Bennet-Doran (illness). Coach Justin Malley opted to go with a 4-2 featuring Kristalei Wolfe and Alyson Christl as setters.

"We served real tough," Malley said. "Makayla (Drahos) had a big hitting night."

Jeanette Van Sickle served up 10 straight points, including five aces, to finish out the first game. Malley went to his bench in the second and third games.

Drahos led the hitters with 11 kills, while Van Sickle added six and Angela Augusta and Tiana McAllister Daggs added four each. Elysse Virden had two kills in the opener, but was rested the rest of the way.

Drahos added six aces, while Van Sickle and Wolfe contributed five each. Christl finished with 16 assists and Wolfe had 13. Wolfe finished with 17 digs with libero Jazmyn Stokes adding 11. Augusta added seven digs, while Christl and Van Sickle finished with six each.

The JV squad won 25-6 and 25-21, while the freshmen won 25-17 and 25-9.

DOUGLAS TOPS COUGARS

SPARKS - Douglas remained unbeaten in league play with a 25-18, 26-24 and 25-16 win in three games at Spanish Springs.

Shannon Dugan finished with nine kills, a block and five digs. Brenna White also had nine kills to go along with five digs and an ace. Setter Jackie Harper doled out 25 assists, added six digs and had a block. Emily Garcia and Erin Allison added seven and four kills, respectively. Mia Townsell led the team in digs with 11.

Douglas is 26-2 overall and 11-0 in league.

CROSS COUNTRY

SIERRA LUTHERAN HAS BUSY WEEKEND

Sierra Lutheran High School's Cross Country varsity boys team ran at Lowry Invitational at Winnemucca on Friday. The team was led by John McRae who finished seventh at (17:56); Nathan Conover was 21st (18:36); Donovan Harrison 32nd (19:07); Luke Barulich 36th, (19:08); Anthony Brewer 40th (19:23); and Jonny Harms 53rd, 20:07.

The girls competed in the JV division. They were led by freshman, Erin Henry, who was timed in 22:35. Abby Williams was 11th (26:08) and Karina Young was 15th (26.43).

On Saturday, junior Becky Grabow finished 28th (20:32) in the girls race at the Clovis Invitational. For the boys, Nathanael Williams was seventh with a time of 16:54.

TENNIS

NIAA TOURNEY STARTS TODAY

The NIAA 4A girls singles tournament gets under way at 2:30 p.m. today at Carson High School with the doubles slated for Thursday at 3 p.m. at the Caughlin Club.

The boys singles tournament also starts today at Centennial Park at 2:30 p.m. The doubles event starts Thursday at noon at Caughlin Club in Reno.
